Young Artists Concert
3:00pm Sunday February 9, 2014
Grace and Holy Spirit Church
13 Court Street
Where can you hear a program featuring musical numbers from the classics to Broadway, folk, and pop tunes? Come to The Arts at Grace eighth annual Young Artists Concert, on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 3 pm at Grace Holy Spirit Church, 13 Court Street, in Cortland. Admission is free. A reception will follow the performance.
This annual concert features talented performers from area high schools recommended for this showcase event by their music teachers. This year's participating instructors are Dave DiGennaro, Marina Gorelaya, Ann Finnamore, and Marion Giambattista. Well known area pianist Richard Montgomery will accompany the performers.
Singers Kendra Walkuski, Margaret Hoeschele, Sophie Whittington, Blake Pace, and Kaitlyn Newman will offer a variety of works. Seth Depue and Cline Wang will perform piano numbers. The audience will also enjoy hearing Strawberry Wilcox on the saxophone and Kennedy George on the euphonium.
The concert will also include numbers by Cortland High's Dynamic Paws. This madrigal a cappela group is part of the Cortland High School vocal music program under the direction of Ben Wells.
Artistic Director David Neal will conclude the afternoon by briefly interviewing the performers about their interest in music and how it is likely to affect their future plans. Neal says that of all the concerts presented by The Arts at Grace, this is one of the series' most meaningful. "It's so important for young performers to perform for an audience that appreciates their developing artistry and understands the hard work that goes into becoming a musician. They will carry the support of the community with them as they perform in venues outside of Cortland. The audience is a key part of this process."
The Arts at Grace is a community outreach of Grace and Holy Spirit Church supported by individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations from the greater Cortland community, including CNY Arts/NYSCA, Cortland Community Foundation, and the Wilkins Foundation.
