The Blue Frog Coffeehouse (64 Main St., Cortland) provides an opportunity for classical musicians at "Classical Open Mic", on most Sundays from 11AM until 1PM. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and at the moment, rather sparse. Only a few musicians have been taking advantage of this opportunity on a regular basis. Emmanuel Sikora (sophomore at Cortland High) plays his own compositions (mostly in the style of Chopin). John Sikora, author of this webpage, sometimes plays classical guitar. Most of this activity is between 12-1PM during the fall and winter. There is NO open mic during the the Blue Frog's Sunday Brunch on the first Sunday of each month.

Why Should YOU Participate in Classical Open Mic?

• Students: Tired of only playing in the orchestra? Aren't you just itching to play that lovely _______ by _________??? If you need an accompanist, we can work that out. If you play piano, there is one available (not great, but playable). Come on down and talk to us! Or send Email to the address given below.

• Teachers: Please encourage your students to participate, or participate yourself and lead by example!

• Amateurs: Do you love music, but don't have the time to work up a full concert's worth of material? Are you a bit nervous about performing in front of people anyway? Classical Open Mic is something like performing in your own living room, surrounded by a few friends and others who share your interest in music. Whether you have one piece of music to share or a half-hour mini-concert, Classical Open Mic is a great way to get over performance jitters and to give a purpose to all those hours of dedicated practice.

• Professionals: Are you tired of playing the same old wedding music? Are you tired of playing in "The Pit"?
  At Classical Open Mic you can play ANYTHING YOU WANT! You might play your favorite etude or try out material for an upcoming concert. Professional groups might consider having a group rehearsal as part of Classical Open Mic. Lots of people would be interested in seeing and hearing the transformation of notes on paper into music. To me, it would be more interesting than the concert itself (no offense).

• Listeners: Come have a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy some great music. (Your) Children might enjoy the music too, along with some milk and cookies.
